Atchafalaya Trace Heritage Area - Baton Rouge - America's largest freshwater swamp.  An American-Indian word, "Atchafalaya" (ah-CHA-fa-LIE-ah) means long river. Established in 2006, the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area stretches across 14 parishes in south-central Louisiana. It is among the most culturally rich and ecologically varied regions in the United States, home to the widely recognized Cajun culture as well as a diverse population of European, African, Caribbean and Native-American descent.

Audubon Aquarium - New Orleans -  Located adjacent from the French Quarter, Audubon Aquarium of the Americas is a stunning place to spend an afternoon in downtown New Orleans. Walk beneath the vivid Caribbean Reef, feed a stingray, become an Adventure Island explorer and journey the Mississippi River.  At the Aquarium penguins, stingrays, sharks and other deep-sea creatures await your visit. See new animals and old favorites, too—including our beloved sea otters Buck and Emma!

Audubon Park & Zoo - New Orleans - is one of the country's premiere zoos, providing an oasis for 1,500 animals, representing over 350 species from around the world.  Audubon Zoo, located in historic Uptown New Orleans, offers an exotic mix of animals from around the globe, engaging educational programs, hands-on animal encounters and lush gardens. Unique natural habitat exhibits—such as the award-winning Louisiana Swamp and Jaguar Jungle—showcase the relationship between people and nature.

Bayou Segnette State Park- Westwego - After you have splashed the day away in Bayou Segnette's popular wave pool or skipped across any one of the adjacent waterways by boat, you will be glad you took the time to sit back and watch nature at play--for the wildlife is abundant and the vegetation worth closer study.

Bogue Chitto State Park - Franklinton - At Bogue Chitto State Park, visitors will experience a diversity of natural habitats on one of the most dynamic and scenic river systems in Louisiana. The 1,786-acre site includes small streams, cypress tupelo swamps, a hardwood forest, upland forests and a rolling landscape.

Chemin-A-Haut State Park - Bastrop - This 503-acre park near the Louisiana-Arkansas state line is situated on a high bluff overlooking Bayou Bartholomew and is a natural paradise for lovers of unspoiled beauty.

Chicot State Park - Ville Platte - The park covers over 6,400 acres of rolling hills and water in South Central Louisiana. The cool, clear waters of Lake Chicot have yielded record catches of largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill and red-ear sunfish. Fishermen will enjoy the convenient boathouse, three boat launches and boat rental facilities.

City Park - New Orleans - City Park is 1300 acres of year-round family fun located in the heart of New Orleans.  New Orleans City Park has magnificent oak trees, picturesque statues and fountains, sports and recreational facilities, and historic buildings.

Cypremort Point State Park - Cypremort Point - Sailing, windsurfing, pleasure boating, fishing, swimming, waterskiing--if it's a water-related activity, you can enjoy it at Cypremort Point State Park.

Fairview-Riverside State Park - Madisonville - Once you've strolled under the moss-draped oaks, water skied on the smooth, clear Tchefuncte River, or wet a line in the waters of nearby Lake Pontchartrain, you've begun to sample the many outdoor opportunities offered by Fairview-Riverside State Park.

Fountainbleau State Park - Mandeville - The day use area of the 2,800-acre park is located on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain. Numerous picnic sites, complete with tables and grills, and an adjacent pavilion are nestled under the oak trees in sight of the lake.

Global Wildlife Center - Folsom - Safari tours, newsletter, wildlife photos, driving instructions, membership info, calendar of events, Global on line store and contact page.  The Global Wildlife Center in Folsom, Louisiana is home to over 4,000 exotic, endangered, and threatened animals from all over the world.

Grand Isle State Park - Grand Isle - The warm Gulf waters are enjoyed by swimmers most of the year, and Grand Isle State Park offers an excellent location for splashing in the surf. A swimming area with a bathhouse and picnic tables is a wonderful place for families to spend the day on the shore. Near the fishing pier is the Visitor Center and another area popular for swimming and picnicking.

Hodges Gardens State Park - Florien - The Hodges recognized the potential of the abandoned quarry on the property and planned a scenic garden using the natural rock formations. Flowers were planted on one level above another, creating a terraced effect. Walkways and footbridges throughout the gardens allow the visitor to stroll through an abundance of flora. Water from a 225-acre lake, built in 1954, is pumped from the lake through the gardens to waterfalls, pools, a geyser, fountains and to the watering system before it is recycled back into the lake. 

Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve - Chalmette Battlefield - Chalmette - headquartered in New Orleans, features trails and canoe tours;  the scene of the 1815 Battle of New Orleans, interpretive talks, exhibits, films, demonstrations and walks.

Jean Lafitte National Park - Crown Point - The Barataria Preserve outside Marrero offers a taste of Louisiana's wild wetlands. The preserve's 20,000 acres include bayous, swamps, marshes, forests, alligators, nutrias, and over 300 species of birds. Boardwalk and dirt trails wind through the preserve and waterways can be explored by canoe or kayak.

Lafreniere Park - Jefferson Parish - From the walking trail to the athletic fields, play areas for kids and picnic venues, the park, in the heart of a bustling metropolitan area, offers a relaxing atmosphere and a tranquility that only its natural setting can offer.

Lake Bistineau State Park - Doyline - Situated on the western shore of Lake Bistineau, this park offers a satisfying blend of beautiful vistas and outstanding recreational facilities. Memorable for its upland mixed hardwood forest, its open waters, and its enchanting stands of cypress and tupelo trees.

Lake Bruin State Park - St. Joseph - There are over 3,000 acres of water surface on Lake Bruin, and the visitors to Lake Bruin State Park have access to every acre for incomparable fishing, superb water sports and fine outdoor living.

Lake Claiborne State Park - Homer - Take your pick: swimming, fishing, birding, boating of all kinds, waterskiing, camping, hiking or just plain relaxing and enjoying unsurpassed natural beauty. Maximum skiing and boating pleasure for sportsmen.

Lake D'Arbonne State Park - Farmerville - Piney forests, rolling hills, three fishing piers, and a beautiful lake draw visitors to this quiet, majestic state park. Designed to keep the focus on nature, park facilities blend with the natural landscape to enhance the outdoor experience of this 655-acre park. Fishing piers and boat docks attract visitors to Lake D'Arbonne, the marvelous 15,250-acre centerpiece of the park.

Lake Fausse Pointe State Park - Martinville - Fishing, boating and canoeing opportunities abound. A boat launch gives visitors easy access to the labyrinth of waterways that winds through the Basin. A visitor center complex features a boat dock with rentals, and a country store provides the extras for a delightful stay at the park.

New Orleans Botanical Garden - New Orleans - home to over 2,000 varieties of plants from throughout the world.  Reborn as the New Orleans Botanical Garden in the early 1980s, the garden's collections contain over 2,000 varieties of plants from all over the world set among the nation's largest stand of mature live oaks. The site contains the Conservatory of the Two Sisters, the New Orleans Historic Train Garden, the Yakumo Nihon Teien Japanese Garden and theme gardens containing aquatics, roses, native plants, ornamental trees and shrubs and perennials.

North Toledo Bend State Park - Zwolle - On the eastern shore of one of the country's largest man-made reservoirs, clean, cool waters gently touch the edges of North Toledo Bend State Park. The Toledo Bend Reservoir provides park visitors the opportunity for a wide variety of water-related activities in a pleasant environment.

Poverty Point Reservoir State Park - Delhi - The 2,700-acre, man-made lake that is the center piece for Poverty Point Reservoir State Park offers visitors an outlet for a variety of watersport activities and a scenic backdrop for waterfowl migration each spring and fall.   The fish and wildlife species inhabiting or migrating through the reservoir are numerous. Anglers can fish the lake year round for largemouth bass, black crappie, blue gill and channel catfish.

Sam Houston Jones State Park - Lake Charles - Crystal clear waters, towering trees, and beautiful vistas along unspoiled rivers and streams make this area a delight for those who enjoy natural beauty at its finest. The numerous waterways in this area make water sports a natural highlight at the park.

South Toledo Bend State Park - Anacoco - Pleasantly located on several small bluffs that extend over and into the Toledo Bend Reservoir, South Toledo Bend Reservoir State Park offers a scenic, waterfront view from many vantage points. While the reservoir is nationally recognized as a destination for bass fishing tournaments, visitors to the park can also enjoy other outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, cycling, birding, camping and enjoying the many forms of wildlife in the area.

St. Bernard State Park - Braithwaite - Located right along the Mississippi River, the park contains a network of man-made lagoons which provides a peaceful, natural setting for relaxation.  Visitors may also launch their boats one-tenth of a mile from the park's entrance in the Caernarvon waterway and experience some great fresh and salt water fishing.

Tammany Trace Trail - NorthShore - is a scenic 31-mile recreational corridor that makes its way along the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain.  The Trace is also a wildlife conservation area and educational learning center for children. The trail makes its way through five historic communities, Covington, Abita Springs, Mandeville, Lacombe, and Slidell, linking various parks and providing beautiful vistas of rivers, bayous and streams from atop 31 railroad bridges.

Tickfaw State Park - Springfield - Rent a canoe and take a fun-filled trip on this unique section of the Tickfaw River. Visitors can bring their own canoes or rent ones supplied by an available canoe vendor. Strolling through four ecosystems on over a mile of boardwalks through Tickfaw State Park, visitors can experience the sights and sounds of a cypress/tupelo swamp, a bottomland hardwood forest, a mixed pine/hardwood forest and the Tickfaw River.
