Aaron Neville from New Orleans

Aaron Neville - New Orleans most recognized living celebrity is appropriately at the top of the list.  Aaron is the only entertainer to win Grammy Awards in every major category from gospel to country!  Aaron was the first Neville to burn his way up the national charts. In 1966, his "Tell It Like It Is" hit number-one. Unfortunately, the label, Par-Lo, went broke before Aaron got paid. On the strength of the smash, though, Neville toured nationally and established his status and a singular style marked by a rare and haunting beauty.

Andrei Codrescu - has published poetry, memoirs, fiction, and essays. He is a regular commentator on National Public Radio and on the UNO faculty.  Andrei Codrescu was born in Sibiu, Romania, in 1946. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1966 and became a U.S. citizen in 1981. He is a poet, novelist, essayist, teacher, and lecturer. Codrescu is MacCurdy Distinguished Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he edits Exquisite Corpse: a Journal of Letters & Life. He is also a regular commentator on National Public Radio and winner of the Peabody Award for the film “Road Scholar.”

Anne Rice - the official site has latest info on her activities and projects as well as info on her books.  Anne Rice is one the of the best selling New Orleans authors.  Her books have sold nearly 100 million copies, making her one of the most widely read authors in modern history.  She completed her first book, Interview with the Vampire, in 1973 and published it in 1976. This book would be the first in Rice's popular Vampire Chronicles series, which now includes over a dozen novels, including 1985's The Vampire Lestat and 1988's The Queen of the Damned. Along with several non-series works, Rice has written three novels in the Lives of the Mayfair Witches sequence.

Carl Weathers - Carl was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and is well known as an American actor seen in the Rocky Series of movies.  Carl also was a professional football player.

Carly Patterson - At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Patterson competed as an all-around athlete and delivered outstanding performances in the preliminary competition, finishing first overall, qualifying for the all-around and balance beam finals.  She won the gold medal, an achievement that had only been attained by one other American gymnast, Mary Lou Retton, during the 1984 summer games. Carly became the first American woman to ever win the Olympic All-Around title in a fully attended Olympic Games.

Dave Bartholomew - Born in Edgard, Louisiana, and moved to New Orleans while he was a youngster.  He was a catalyst in molding and shaping the New Orleans sound during rock & roll's formative years and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.  While he produced, wrote and arranged for recordings by numerous other artists, Bartholomew's partner-ship with Domino proved the most prolific and productive. The pair would eventually generate sales in excess of several hundred million dollars, receiving recognition from the Guinness Book of World Records for a world record in recording sales.

FATS DOMINO - New Orleans - The first ambassador of New Orleans rock 'n' roll, Domino collected 23 gold singles and sold 65 million records.  "This is a tribute to the man who made 23 rhythm & blues records that sold each more than a million copies. All together he sold more than one hundred million records. Fats made millions of people happy with his warm and recognizable voice. He is one of the biggest promoters of the New Orleans Rhythm & Blues Style, and gives a positive impulse on hundreds of Rhythm & Blues artists around the world."  Fats Domino: Walking Back to New Orleans The PBS documentary "Fats Domino:Walking Back To New Orleans" went into premiere at Tipitina's in New Orleans on November 5, 2008 in the presence of Fats, who also received a replacement at that occasion of his Lifetime Achievement Grammy. The documentary, which contains 30 minutes of his concert filmed in May 2007 at Tipitina's, features also interviews with firends and fellow musicians like Dr.John, Irma Thomas, Robert Plant, Randy Newman and Allen Toussaint.

Funky Meters - Today founding members Art Neville and George Porter Jr., are joined by New Orleans native Brian Stoltz on guitar and Russell Batiste Jr. on drums and are known officially as the funky METERS. funky METERS tap into the roots of The Meters musical heritage while taking the sound well into the future. Their trademark sound blends funk, blues, and dance grooves with a New Orleans vibe. In fact, the funk is still going as strong today as it was 40 plus years ago.

Hokie Gajan - Born in Baker, Louisiana, Howard Lee "Hokie" Gajan is a former American football running back who play for the New Orleans Saints and is now on WWL Sports radio.

Ian Joseph Somerhalder - Born in Covington, Louisiana.  Ian Joseph Somerhalder is an American model, actor and producer, best known for playing Boone Carlyle in the TV drama Lost and Damon Salvatore in the TV drama The Vampire Diaries.  Somerhalder spends much of his time studying acting, writing and practicing yoga. Irma Thomas of New Orleans

Lil Wayne - Born in New Orleans, Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. (Lil Wayne) is an American rapper.  In 1997, Lil Wayne joined the group Hot Boys, which also included rappers Juvenile, B.G., and Turk. Hot Boys debuted with Get It How U Live! that year. Randy Newman - Born in Los Angeles, California, Randy lived in New Orleans until he was 11 years old.  Randy Newman is a singer, songwriter, arranger, composer and pianist.  One of his biggest hits was "Short People".  He has won an Academy Award, three Emmy Awards and four Grammy Awards.  Randy was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002.

Terry Bradshaw - Terry Paxton Bradshaw (born September 2, 1948 in Shreveport, Louisiana) is a former quarterback with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the American National Football League (NFL), and a current beloved television host.  Due to his excellent performance in college as a most outstanding college player, Terry Bradshaw was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996.  Terry also had an excellent career with the Pittsburg Steelers and won great acclaim winning four Super Bowls.

Tyler Perry - Emmitt Perry, Jr. was born in New orleans, Louisiana and lataer changed his name from Emmitt to Tyler.  Tyler is an actor, director, playwright, screenwriter, producer and author.  Tyler Perry is most noted for his book and later movie, "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" and "Madea's Family Reunion".

Veleka Gray - was born in New Orleans, Louisiana - Veleka Gray is an actress, writer and producer.   She has appeared television show including Love of Life, As the World Turns, The Young and the Restless and had more contract roles than anyone else  in the history of daytime television.  Veleka has returned to New Orleans and is now producing films.

Vince Vance and The Valiants - are a rock and roll musical group from New Orleans.  Best known for the singles "All I Want for christmas Is You" and "Bomb Iran" which was the most request song in the US for several weeks in 1980 during the height of the Iranian Hostage Crisis. Vince Vance & The Valiants have also been inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall Of Fame, among numerous other significant honors.
