1850 House, The - New Orleans, Louisiana - the State Museum has re-created what one of the residences would have looked like during the Antebellum era when the Baroness Pontalba first opened her doors. Faithfully furnished with domestic goods, decorative arts and art of the period, the 1850 House depicts middle class family life during the most prosperous period in New Orleans' history. Confederate Memorial Hall - New Orleans, Louisiana - Confederate Memorial Hall opened its doors in New Orleans on January 8, 1891, and since that time has been commemorating the military history and heritage of the South. The museum is the oldest in Louisiana and houses one of the largest collections of Confederate memorabilia in the United States.

Contemporary Arts Center - New Orleans, Louisiana - is home to artists' bold experiments in painting, theater, photography, performance art, dance, music, video, education, and sculpture since 1976.

Historic New Orleans Collection - New Orleans, Louisiana - established in 1966, it operates a museum at 533 Royal Street, illustrating the history of the city and state, the Williams Residence house museum, and a museum shop. Louisiana State Cotton Museum - Lake Providence, Louisiana - opened in 1995 to preserve the history and heritage of cotton cultivation and its influence on life in Louisiana. There are currently four exhibits on display: The History of Cotton; The Impact of Cotton on Westward Expansion; The Impact of Cotton on Society and Culture; and the Impact of Cotton on Economy.

Louisiana State Exhibit Museum - Shreveport, Louisiana - the museum highlights 22 world-renowned dioramas created from beeswax by its first director, artistic genius Henry B. Wright. Unique among museum structures, the doughnut-shaped building houses exhibits down the middle and on both sides of its long corridors. Showcased at the rotunda's entrance are two gigantic frescoes painted by noted artist Conrad Albrizio; while inside, a large relief map, 49 feet in circumference, depicts Louisiana's typography.

Louisiana State Oil and Gas Museum - Oil City, Louisiana - features an oil derrick donated by Texaco and a variety of early oil field equipment. It was formed in 1969 by a group of citizens dedicated to preserving the historical importance of the area, site of the 1911 "Ferry No. 1" well, one of the world's first over-water discovery wells.

Louisiana Steam Train Association - New Orleans, Louisiana - Southern Pacific steam locomotive 745 has an interesting history. While this is just a brief overview, more local information on this engine' s home, Algiers, Louisiana, can be obtained in the many books on the history of Algiers written by native Richard Remy Dixon.

Louisiana’s Civil War Museum at Confederate Memorial Hall - New Orleans, Louisiana - contains the second largest collection of Confederate memorabilia in the United States, and is the oldest continually operating museum in Louisiana.  a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of Civil War memorabilia, specifically related to the South and Louisiana.

LSU Museum of Art - Baton Rouge, Louisiana - The LSU Museum of Art (LSU MOA), located in the Shaw Center for the Arts in downtown Baton Rouge, opened in March 2005. The new museum, part of Louisiana State University (LSU), manifests a decade-long vision to offer LSU and the Baton Rouge community greater access to its diverse art collection, changing exhibitions, education programs, and special events - all within an exceptional cultural complex.

Madame John's Legacy - New Orleans, Louisiana - in the historic French Quarter is one of the finest 18th century building complexes in Louisiana. Of special interest because it escaped the great fire of 1795, which leveled much of New Orleans, the house is actually a product of the preceding fire of 1788. The structures on the site in the early 1780's were destroyed by the conflagration and Madame John's was erected on the burnt-out lot in 1789. Find Link on Home Page.

New Orleans Jazz Club Museum and Louisiana State Museum Jazz Collection - New Orleans, Louisiana - Originally a separate museum, the collection is now in the Louisiana State Museum Jazz Collection.  The Louisiana Digital Library (LDL) is an online library of Louisiana institutions that provides over 144,000 digital materials. Its purpose is to make unique historical treasures from the Louisiana institution's archives, libraries, museums, and other repositories in the state electronically accessible to Louisiana residents and to students, researchers, and the general public in other states and countries. The Louisiana Digital Library contains photographs, maps, manuscript materials, books, oral histories, and more that document history and culture. Old U.S. Mint - New Orleans, Louisiana - The only building in America to have served both as a U.S. and Confederate Mint was built in 1835 during the presidency of Andrew Jackson who had advocated for its establishment in order to help finance development of the nation's western frontier.

Presbytere, The - New Orleans, Louisiana - originally called the Casa Curial (Ecclesiastical House), derives its name from the fact that it was built on the site of the residence, or presbytere, of the Capuchin monks.
